Entrepreneurs and small businesses will likely be increasingly important catalysts for economic growth in the Bronx—and all of New York City. Given the demographics of the borough and the city, immigrant and minority entrepreneurs will play a key role. However many immigrants and minorities often face significant obstacles as they try to start and grow businesses here, and too few of them are accessing existing programs designed to help entrepreneurs.

To bring visibility to this important issue and develop better resources for assisting immigrant and minority small business owners, the Center for an Urban Future and the Fund for Public Advocacy are hosting a series of forums, with one in each of the five boroughs. The first will focus on the Bronx, a borough where immigrant and minority entrepreneurs are already having a huge impact on the local economy, but where there is considerable untapped potential. These forums will not only elevate the important role of immigrant and minority businesses in each of the five boroughs; they will provide economic development officials, business leaders and policymakers with a better understanding of the challenges these entrepreneurs face and what policies and initiatives could better support them.

Light breakfast will be served.

Attendance is free but space is limited. Deadline to register is Monday, February 13. To register, RSVP via e-mail at rsvp@nycfuture.org.
