Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer today unveiled a new policy proposal that came straight from a report we published last month with NYU Wagner—and which we argued for in an op-ed in the Daily News. Our Innovation and the City report profiled 15 of the best policy innovations from other cities that have the potential to be replicated in New York and argued that city policymakers would be wise to implement some of these ideas. One of the key ideas was San Francisco’s Kindergarten to College Savings program, where the city of San Francisco provides every public school child in kindergarten with $50 in a savings account that can only be used for postsecondary education. Buttressed by our report, Borough President Stringer is calling for New York to implement the same program here.
